ACT Residual
This is an institutional testing program, an on-campus testing program provided for enrolled or admitted students under age 21 who were unable to test on a national ACT test date. Test results are reported only to ETSU Admission’s Office. There are no student score reports given, nor can additional score reports be generated to report scores to any other college. Check with the University Testing Center for test fees.

COMPASS Freshman Placement Exam
This is an institutional testing program. It is required by the Tennessee Board of Regents (T.B.R.). This exam is administered to place students in the appropriate college level courses. Students who have completed 96 hours and the General Education Core Part 1 are required to take the test. COMPASS tests academic preparation in three areas: Writing, Reading Comprehension, and Mathematics. Students may call University Advisement at (423)439-5244 for additional information. Testing is administered throughout the year.

A $20 non-refundable fee is charged for students who wish to challenge their DSP placement based on ACT/SAT scores or prior COMPASS test results. Students who are required to take the COMPASS test for initial placement in DSP courses are not required to pay the $20 fee.

PCAT - Pharmacy College Admissions Test
The Pharmacy Technical Certification Test is given three times during the calendar year. This test is required by the Pharmacy Technical Certification Board to be certified as a Pharmacy Technician. Tests are given in March, July, and November.

PRAXIS I/PPST - Pre-Professional Skills Test
A candidate who is admitted to an approved teacher preparation program must complete the Praxis Series I tests: Writing, Reading and Mathematics. Please call 1-800-853-6773. Press 3 to go directly to Operator. www.ets.org/praxis.

TCE - Teacher Certification Examination
All teacher candidates must complete the Praxis Series II tests; The Core Battery and an appropriate Subject Assessment or Specialty Area Test for initial licensure/certification. The test is offered on campus in January, March, April, June, September, and November.

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language

USMLE - United States Medical Licensing Examination
The USMLE is composed of three Step examinations which provide a common evaluation system for individuals applying for medical licensure in the United States. Results of the USMLE are reported to medical licensing authorities for their use in granting the initial license to practice medicine. STEP 1 assesses application of knowledge and understanding of key concepts of basic biomedical science. STEP 2 assesses whether the candidate can apply the medical knowledge and understanding of clinical science considered essential for the provision of patient care under supervision. STEP 3 assesses whether the candidate can apply the medical knowledge and understanding of biomedical and clinical science considered essential for the unsupervised practice of medicine. STEP 1 is an eight hour exam and STEP 2 is a nine hour exam.

STEP 3 exams are two days in length and must be scheduled on two consecutive business days (e.g., Monday-Tuesday, Tuesday-Wednesday, etc.) STEP 3 is current not done at ETSU. www.usmle.org

Candidates must register with the appropriate registration entity before scheduling a test time. Register for USMLE Steps can be done by calling the Candidate Services Call Center (CSCC) at 1-800-633-3926 (MED-EXAM). Once a candidate is registered and has obtained a "scheduling number" he/she can then call the University Testing Center directly to schedule their exam.
